Linnea Ann Nielsen

Linnea began smiling over the weekend (real smiles, not “I have to poop” smiles) so tonight we took some photos. In addition to the many other shots we got, we managed to get a few of her smiling. They aren’t actually very good photos — they are pretty blurry — but they are great moments and I hope you’ll all enjoy them as much as we did.   We haven’t gotten her to smile on demand yet, but it’s early still. In the mean time, we’ll keep making every funny face and noise we can think of      

Hi everyone. Daddy here. Believe it or not I’ve hardly touched the computer since Linnea was born, but after much delay (and plenty of nagging from friends….you know who you are) I am back with great photos to share. Below are a couple of teasers, but be sure to check out all of Linnea’s photos from her first month as well as all of her photos from her second month so far.  
She is doing very well. She had a little infant acne, but it was nothing a little soap, water, and iPhoto retouch tool couldn’t handle. She’s around 10 pounds now (give or take a few ounces) and eating 4 ounces of food at a time pretty regularly. That’s a pretty big deal considering when she was born we couldn’t get her to eat more than 2, and we just recently got her eating over 3. Pretty soon she’ll be up to 5 ounces Bottom line: she’s growing fast so those of you who haven’t seen her *cough* Heather *cough* better get a move on. She’ll be 6 feet and breaking hearts in no time! 

She’s also spending time in her crib now. Only during the day, but she’s taking to it well. She still sleeps in her bassinet in our room at night and will do so until she’s 3 months old (if not sooner, definitely not later).    

Like many parents we came to discover that all of the love, affection, and comfort in the world is crap compared to the mind-numbing hum of a vacuum cleaner so we’ve been using it to get her to sleep when she is particularly resistant. Today though, on iTunes, Steph found a track that is nothing but 5 minutes of vacuum cleaner straight through. Make a CD of with 12 copies of that track and you have over an hour of baby calming goodness. I assure you all, 99 cents has never been better spent. Well, that’s it for now. So it’s been three weeks and we are all getting along very well.  Linnea is a very good baby and only has a few moments when she is unhappy…. mainly when she is a little stopped up, but who wouldn’t be a little unhappy at that.  Chris is an excellent father and we couldn’t ask for anything better.  We are finally on the up-slope of her gaining her weight back.  She takes after her mommy and just has a hard time gaining that weight.  We’ve been on a very strict diet of at least 3 oz every three hours with some supplementation and this has seemed to help her gain some of her weight back.  The last time we went to the doctor she was back up to 7 lb 6 oz knocking on 7 lb 7 oz.  We go back to the doctor on the 8th so we’ll see how much she is then.  Hopefully we are back up to our birth weight and then some.  We are slowly trying to get into a routine and I think this will help things along.  It’s been a crazy few weeks with Christmas and all the company and thus it’s been really hard to get into a daily groove.   I must say that the most surprising thing to me so far is that I always knew that there was a lot of laundry, but I never imagined that it was as much as it is… Please feel free to visit the on-line gallery for more pictures… Read the rest of this entry »
